The Department of Library Services at BTC

The Department of Library Services at BTC, Kokrajhar, places a strong emphasis on building a comprehensive collection of books, periodicals, journals, and employment news to meet the needs of students, research scholars, academics, and the general public in BTAD. These resources serve as valuable references for the people of the region.

To promote and enhance reading habits among the public, the department regularly organizes awareness programs such as quizzes, debates, essay writing, and extempore speech competitions. Additionally, the department has initiated efforts to support and improve the Registered Club cum Libraries within BTAD, contributing to the overall development of libraries and access to knowledge in the area.

Vision & Mission

The vision of the department “Ensure quality Public Library Services to the all common people and student community “ vision will be made effective through the following missions:

  • Infrastructure development of library will be encouraged by providing adequate funds.
  • More and more registered club cum libraries will have to be set-up by providing them with necessary financial assistance.
  • Collection of the library materials i.e. print and non-print should be made available to the readers in terms of Agriculture, Health & Hygiene, Sanitation, Gender Equality, Environment & Pollution, Fish culture, Farming, Entrepreneurship, Horticulture, etc.
  • Library oriented awareness programme will have to be arranged to attract the public readers.
  • Application of ICT (Information & Communication Technology) should be given especial importance to the libraries.
  • Initiation should be taken by the department to collect the relevant information of various department of BTC to bring them in one umbrella.
  • Strengthening of Bodoland Model Mobile Rural Library should be given more importance.
  • The professionals of the library should be imparted training on different subjects of specialization to gather knowledge so as to enable them to render satisfactory services to readers together with reference.

Administrative Structure

The Department of Library services has been functioning since inception of Bodoland Territorial Council in the year 2003 and is entrusted with implementation of various activities under the State Plan like Grant-in-aid, awareness program, trainings, purchase of books and paper magazines etc.

The Directorate of Library Services, BTC, Kokrajhar is headed by the CHD cum District Librarian who is a senior level officer of District Librarian and is aided by 04 nos District Librarian, 02 nos Sub-Divisional Librarian, 01 nos Reference Librarian, 02 nos Library Assistant, 02 nos Technical Assistant, 01 nos UDA, 08 nos LDA and 09 nos Counter attendant and 6 nos Grade IV staff which accounts to total staff strength of 35 (Thirty five) nos.
